A conference entitled “Addressing International Private Law through the Lens of the Apostille Convention” was held in Thailand as part of the 62nd annual session of the Asian-African Legal Consultative Organization (AALCO). This was reported on the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand.
The event was attended by Dr. Christophe Bernasconi, Secretary General of the Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH), and Ms. Chaovanee Tangwongprasert, Head of the Legalization Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand. The discussion was moderated by Ms. Ornyajai Phultanang, Head of the International Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Justice of Thailand.
The event aimed to provide participants with an in-depth understanding of the principles of the Hague Conference on Private International Law and the benefits of applying the Apostille Convention. The speakers described the activities of HCCH and gave examples of how apostille helps people. In addition, the event discussed the latest developments of HCCH and Thailand's preparation for joining the Apostille Convention. The conference participants exchanged views on issues of private international law and experiences in solving specific problems. According to them, apostille makes solving many issues in this area more effective.
Thailand joined the Hague Conference in 2021 and is now preparing to join the Apostille Convention. Representatives of Iran, Lebanon, Malaysia and Vietnam have recently voiced similar intentions.
