According to law, commercial companies in Hong Kong must submit annual financial statements. These data are reported in electronic form or in paper to Hong Kong Companies Registry.

Reporting of financial statements in the Hong Kong is subject to the Accounting Act and other regulations.

Hong Kong Financial Reporting Standards (HKFRS) are based on the IFRS and are practically identical to them. Unlike in many other jurisdictions, the IFRS are widely used in Hong Kong by small and medium-sized companies.

All Hong Kong companies must submit an annual return including information about registered office, shareholders, directors, secretary etc. It must be submitted within 42 days after the company’s registration date.

Public companies and companies limited by guarantee must submit financial statements together with the annual return. Small companies are exempt from this obligation.
