The Republic of Ireland is a party to the Hague Convention of October 5, 1961, which established a simplified procedure for the legalization of documents through apostille. The Convention entered into force for Ireland on March 9 of the same year.

Consular legalization of an Irish Police Clearance Certificate
If the country where the Irish police clearance certificate is to be used is not a party to the 1961 Hague Convention, such as the UAE, the document must undergo the more costly and complex procedure of consular legalization.
