Registering a company in the UAE is a rather complicated process. Outside of the free trade zones, registration is managed by the Department of Economic Development. Within the free trade zones, the administration of the respective free trade zone is responsible for registration in the commercial register and managing it.
The largest free trade zone is the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC). The DIFC has it's own commercial register, established in 2010.
Information on some companies, especially those registered in free trade zones, may not be publically available. Furthermore, extracts from the UAE do not contain information on a company's directors and proprietors as well as on its common stock.
Legalization of extracts from UAE
The UAE did not accede to The Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents in 1966. Therefore, all emirati documents are subject to legalization.
