On May 18, 2017, the College of the Eurasian Economic Commission published a draft for the Technical Regulation "On safety of packaged potable water including natural mineral water". The draft had been ratified on May 16, 2017. The project still has to be passed by the Eurasian Economic Council.
The draft for the technical regulation determines the requirement for the safety of bottled water, manufacturing procedures, storage, transport, sales, recycling, bottling, packaging and marking. The technical regulations TR CU 005/2011 On safety of packaging and TR СU 022/2011 On food marking have to be taken into account.
The technical regulation does not apply for:
- Natural mineral water not supposed for drinking
- Drinking water for water supply
The technical regulation does not affect questions concerning designation of origin, geological investigation or the usage and maintenance of water resources.
The Technical Regulation On safety of packaged potable water including natural mineral water is to come into force on January 1, 2019.
