Schmidt & Schmidt offers the legalization of documents from Yemen.
Yemen has not joined the Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents. Therefore, documents from Yemen cannot be legalized by apostille, they will only be recognized abroad after they undergo consular legalization, a procedure by which the signature and the seal of foreign documents are authenticated. Responsible is the respective embassy of the country in which the document shall be used.
The following documents can be legalized:
- Extracts from the commercial register
- Certificates of civil status (certificates of birth, death, marriage and divorce)
- Education documents (school reports, certificates, diplomas)
- Judicial decisions
- Notarized copies of documents
- Notarially certified translations
- Further notarial documents (authorizations, last will, declarations)
Consular legalization of foreign documents for use in Yemen
Foreign documents must first be authenticated by the responsible authorities in the country of origin. After successful authentification, the consulate general of Yemen can legalize the documents. Documents can be submitted by mail, provided the transfer voucher and a postpaid return envelope are enclosed.
Consular legalization of documents from Yemen for use abroad
Many foreign countries have temporarily ceased or limited the legalization of documents originating from Yemen. The countries concerned handle the matter all differently, in some of them, the domestic authority may decide whether or not to accept a document from Yemen as real without further proof.
Due to the closure of the German embassy in Sanaa, the legalization of documents from Yemen for use in Germany is not possible until further notice. A legalization by other foreign missions is also not possible.
On average, processing the documents takes up to 14 days.
Courier services are charged and invoiced separately according to the courier service’s rates.
