If you want to execute transactions with real estate located in one of African countries, it is particularly important to carefully check information prior to entry into a contract and payment of services. Each country maintains its own state real estate register and cadaster, which contains all basic information about real estate objects. Having consulted with information in registers, one may find out address, area and description of real estate and who owns it and which transactions were carried out with it. Access to registers may be restricted at the level of individual countries by domestic personal data protection legislation. Electronic real estate databases are available not in all African countries, and registers are maintained only in a paper form. Certain information may be unavailable for third-parties, thus a possibility for obtaining an extract shall be specified individually.

Extracts from the real estate register are required for:

  • confirmation of title to real estate
  • receipt of information about the real estate item
  • debt collection
  • analysis of prices for real estate
  • other commercial and analytical purposes

Search in the register is possible by:

  • full address
  • passport data of owner
  • cadastral number

What is a land registry?

The Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents unites 115 countries of the world and allows the simplified legalization procedure in the form of apostilling.
