On April 28, the transition period for changes to the Technical Regulation TR CU 022/2011 "On food marking" ended. The Technical Regulation set minimum requirements for the safety of products during the EAC Certification , EAC Declaration or state registration .
The Council of the Eurarian Economic Commission has specified the requirements for food marking, which should lead to better legibility and perception of the information on the packaging. The terms "legibility" and "comprehensibility" have been clarified, requirements for the font size of different information on the packaging have been specified, and requirements for the names of foods on the packaging have been introduced.
For example, information about the date of manufacture and the expiry date is currently given in a font with a height of at least 2 mm. And information about the composition, storage conditions, names and location of the manufacturer of food are given in a font with a height of not less than 0.8 mm in lowercase letters.
Until April 28, 2021 it was possible to produce and approve products in the EAEU in accordance with the previous requirements for their labeling. After this date this option is no longer available. There are currently new requirements to be met.
The term "legibility" means the clarity of the font used in the marking, as well as the contrast between the background color and the color of the information printed on it. This means that it must be possible to read information without using special optical devices (other than glasses or contact lenses). The term "intelligibility" represents the unambiguity of the transmission of the meaning of information about the product. As of April 29, the names of foods must be included in the description and be in the immediate vicinity of it.
