On October 10, 2021, the Cyprus Parliamentary Gazette published the Law on the Department of the Registrar of Companies and Intellectual Property of 2021 (N133 (I) / 2021), on the basis of which the Department (Bureau) of the Registrar of Companies and Official Liquidator (Department of Registrar of Companies and Official Receiver, DRCOR) was renamed the Department of Registrar of Companies and Intellectual Property (DRCIP), and the Intellectual and Industrial Property Section was renamed the Intellectual Property Section.
The change in the name of the Department was considered necessary, given the creation in 2020 of the Department of Insolvency and the transfer to it of all relevant competencies, powers and duties, as well as in connection with the need to reflect in the name of the Department the full range of competencies, powers and responsibilities implemented departments (sections).
It should be noted that based on the provisions of article 7 (1) of the Law, any reference to the Registrar of Companies Department in any law, regulation, service scheme and/or public document that is not within the competence of the Insolvency Department should be considered as a reference to the Registrar of Companies and Intellectual Property Department.
