The authorities of the state of Wisconsin (USA) have announced the introduction of a "universal" apostille certificate. An official notice was released on February 5, 2025, by the office of the state secretary, Sarah Godlewski.
How is the document legalization reform progressing in the state of Wisconsin?
The state authorities note that the introduction of the new apostille certificate marks the completion of another stage in the document legalization reform in Wisconsin. Previously, the Secretary of State's office began accepting electronic payments from citizens for apostille services directly "at the counter."
In 2024, the Wisconsin Secretary of State's office processed more than 15,000 apostille and consular legalization procedures.
"This allowed families to complete international adoptions, students to study abroad, and businesses to enter global markets," said a statement from the Secretary of State's office.

"The universal certificate makes the processing of apostilles more efficient, and the new design ensures that these certificates will be more secure and verifiable for the needs of our customers," said Sarah Godlewski, commenting on the new phase of the reform.
The updated apostille certificate meets all the requirements of the Hague Convention. The certificate is written in three languages: English, French, and Spanish. The authenticity can now be verified through the newly established electronic apostille register.
"This is just another step towards more modern and efficient services for families and businesses in Wisconsin. In the near future, we can expect more modern services, including online ordering of apostilles, online payments, an updated portal for state records, and much more," emphasized Sarah Godlewski.
