On July 11, 2025, the Government of Quebec published updated guidelines regarding the apostille process on its official website..
Relocation of Quebec’s Apostille Service
An important organizational change is the upcoming relocation of Quebec’s Apostille Service. As of July 21, the service will operate from a new address: 276 Saint-Jacques Street, Suite 301,Montreal, Quebec H2Y 1N3, Canada
All inquiries and submissions related to the apostille of documents must be directed exclusively to this new location.
If you forget about this change, your documents may be delayed in the legalization process.
How the updated apostille process works in Quebec
The Quebec Apostille Service recommends having the following information ready before submitting documents for legalization:
- The country where the document will be used;
- The applicant’s contact information;
- A credit card for paying the processing fee (alternative methods such as bank or money transfers are also accepted).
Before submitting your documents, make sure they are still valid and check whether a translation is required — including a translation of the apostille itself — for use abroad.
Step-by-step apostille procedure:
- Fill out the application form;
- Choose a payment method;
- Print the completed form (do not staple or attach it to the original document;
- Prepare an envelope;
- Send the document and the application form to the Apostille Service after payment has been made.
By default, documents are returned by regular post. If you want to receive them by courier or Canada Post Express, you must:
- Pay the shipping costs;
- Pay the handling fee for arranging the delivery;
- Include a prepaid return envelope with your submission;
- Keep the tracking information for return delivery.
The Apostille Service notes that its online systems have recently been experiencing disruptions, and that technical teams are working to resolve the issue.
