The Association of the Children's Goods Industry (AIDT) has initiated a new GOST for environmentally friendly toys. The document is being developed with the participation of experts from Rosstandart and the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
A new standard is to be published by 2022, setting out requirements for raw materials, dyes used, manufacture and disposal. At the same time, plastic may only be used in eco-toys if it is made from plant-based polymers. Toys that meet the standard can be recycled.
The new standard for toys will confirm that products have no harmful effects on the environment and consumer health. The relevance of the development of the standard is based on the fact that there are often toys on the market for children's products that are labelled "eco", although there are no confirming certificates and documents for the environmental performance of those products.
All toys sold on the eurasian market have to confirm their quality. Before being placed on the Eurasian Economic Union market, toys will be subject to compulsory conformity assessment on compliance with the safety requirements of the TR CU 008/2011 On the safety of toys in the form of EAC certification with the participation of an accredited testing body.
