Today the world is getting smaller and opening up new possibilities for us. Every year, more and more people are getting college degrees away from home. Applicants wishing to specialize in certain intricacies of automated control systems, international relations or, for example, the Mayan language have the opportunity to choose universities that are recognized as the best in the world in this field.
One should not forget, however, that studying abroad involves a lot of bureaucratic intricacies in addition to the education itself. After all, the legal systems of different countries are more or less different from each other and in order to avoid unpleasant problems in the future, it is necessary to take care of the documents. The consultants at Schmidt & Schmidt have many years of experience in dealing with diplomas and are ready to provide services of any complexity.
So what should you watch out for?
The most obvious is the previous degree: a certificate or diploma (if you have already obtained a degree from another university). Depending on whether the country in which the university is located is a party to the 1961 Hague Convention or not, the procedure of apostille or consular legalization must be carried out.
It should be noted that in many countries around the world, diplomas and certificates must be pre-authenticated prior to legalization for use abroad. In addition, it is very important to clarify whether the diploma must be recognised in the destination country.
But even if your diploma or certificate is already properly certified, not everything is done yet. In addition to passports, for which you do not need an apostille, a birth certificate is more likely to be required. It must necessarily go through the apostille or consular legalisation procedure.
Circumstances may also develop in such a way that you are required to provide the university and the authorities with medical records, documents confirming your place of residence or the existence of real estate. All must also be legalized for use abroad in the prescribed manner.
If you want to get credit for some of the courses you have attended, you need an academic certificate, which must also be certified.
In the event that you plan to return to your home country or move to a third country after receiving the diploma, the certificate must also be provided with an apostille. It is also worth clarifying in advance whether the diploma will be recognized in the country in which you intend to work. Unfortunately, it happens that a person studies abroad for several years, and in the country with which he wants to connect his future career, his degree is simply not recognized.
You should never forget that the situation with documents can often get complicated. In order not to overshadow the joy of starting or graduating with legal problems, it is best to contact a specialist in advance who will help you with all the bureaucratic processes.
