The Ministry of Justice of Ukraine has explained how to certify documents with an apostille while abroad. The official comment from the department was published by the Judicial and Legal Newspaper
How to apostille Ukrainian documents abroad
The Ministry of Justice of Ukraine places apostilles on documents issued by judicial authorities, courts, state archives, as well as on notarized documents," the department's explanation states.
The Ministry of Justice clarifies that there are several options for submitting Ukrainian documents for apostilling:
- Send documents by mail to the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine or its regional offices;
- Contact the Ukrainian consulate, which will send the document for apostilling itself;
- For archival documents, it is necessary to contact the State Archival Service of Ukraine.
The Ministry of Justice clarifies that to initiate the procedure, it is necessary to submit an application, provide an identity document, and the original document to be apostilled. The fee for a Ukrainian citizen is currently 51 hryvnias (about 1.25 USD), and for a legal entity, it is 85 hryvnias (approximately 2.02 USD).
"Before submitting documents, it is important to check the current payment details on the official website of The Ministry of Justice or State Treasury Service of Ukraine. This process is crucial for confirming the authenticity of documents at the international level, particularly for legal and administrative purposes abroad," the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine clarifies.
Which documents are apostilled in Ukraine?
Earlier, Schmidt & Schmidt wrote that, according to the Ministry of Justice's statement, the following documents in Ukraine are subject to apostilling:

The apostille in Ukraine is placed directly on a blank area of the document, on its reverse side, or on a separate sheet by an official of the competent authority (in this case, the separate sheet is attached to the document with red or white thread and certified with a signature and seal).
The apostille in Ukraine is not placed on:
- Original passport documents, military IDs, employment records, weapon carry permits, vehicle registration certificates (technical passports), and identity cards.
- Originals, copies (photocopies) of legal acts, clarifications, and legal opinions regarding their application, and documents that are of a correspondence nature.
