Marriage certificate (Äktenskapsbevis)
Before a couple can marry in Sweden, the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket) must perform an inquiry into any legal impediments to the marriage, known as a hindersprövning. To initiate this process, the couple must submit a written request to Skatteverket. The application forms, which are only available in Swedish, can be found on the Agency's website.
A marriage certificate verifies that a couple is legally married. It is commonly used for legal processes, such as applying for a name change, residency permits, inheritance rights, or proving marital status for visa and immigration purposes.

Divorce certificate (Skilsmässobrevis)

The divorce certificate serves the purpose to legally verify and certify the dissolution of a marriage. This document is required for remarrying, updating marital status on government or financial records, applying for spousal support, custody arrangements and immigration applications. Divorce records are managed by the court that granted the divorce.

Death certificate (dödsbevis)
In Sweden, when a person passes away, a doctor is required to send a death certificate (known as a dödsbevis) to the Swedish Tax Agency, Skatteverket. Skatteverket then records the death, issues a dödsfallsintyg (for Swedish residents), and notifies various authorities, as well as certain companies, banks, and insurance providers automatically. A copy of the dödsfallsintyg can be requested from Skatteverket at any time.
Deaths of non-residents are also registered, and next of kin may request an extract from the register by contacting Skatteverket. This extract (registerutdrag) confirms the deceased person’s name, date of birth, and date of death.
This certificate is an official document that certifies an individual's death. It is often needed for legal and financial matters such as settling estates, claiming life insurance, finalizing wills, notifying government agencies and closing bank accounts.
