Territory of the Wallis and Futuna Islands is an autonomous overseas collectivity of France comprising three main islands (Wallis, Futuna, and Alofi) and numerous islets in the subregion of Polynesia in Pacific Ocean. Each of the three islands is a traditional kingdom – Royaume coutumier, each run by kings: Uvea (Wallis), Alo (Alofi and two-thirds of Futuna), and Sigavo (a third of Futuna). Head of state is the President of France, represented here by the Administrator Superior of Wallis and Futuna.
Local currency is the CFP franc (where CFP stands for Change Franc Pacifique – “Pacific Franc Exchange”). Official language is French, while most of the population speak Wallisian and Futunan. Wallis and Futuna hold the position of an observer in the Pacific Islands Forum.
Economy of Wallis and Futuna is based on subsistence agriculture. Most revenue comes from remittances, import taxes, government subsidies from mainland France, and sale of fishing licenses.
