Extracts from commercial register of Curaçao

Schmidt & Schmidt provides extracts from the commercial register of Curaçao with a translation and an apostille.

Curaçao is an island in the Lesser Antilles in the Caribbean. It is an autonomous territory and one of the constituent countries that form the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Forms the so-called ABC islands along with the Dutch countries of Aruba and Bonaire. Head of state is the King of the Netherlands Willem-Alexander, represented here by the Governor of Curaçao. Local currency is the Netherlands Antillean guilder. Official languages are Dutch, Papiamento, and English.

Curaçao used to be a part of the constituent country of the Netherlands Antilles until its dissolution in 2010. Apart from Curaçao, Netherlands Antilles consisted of Aruba, Bonaire, Saba, Sint Eustatius, and Sint Maarten – and collectively comprised an offshore zone that had not applied taxation standards required by the OECD. On its own, Curaçao is considered a tax haven too, but complies with the EU Code of Conduct against harmful tax practices. OECD classifies it as a “partially compliant” jurisdiction in terms of tax cooperation.

Financial services play an important role in the economy of Curaçao. Central Bank of Curaçao and Sint Maarten is located here, this is the oldest central bank in the Western Hemisphere. Local authorities prioritise the diversification of the island’s economy and attract investors with the “Open Arms” policy, which implies focus on IT companies. There is also a Free Trade Zone in the capital city of Willemstad. Curaçao is attractive for its taxation and corporate legislation.

Other major sectors are tourism and oil refinery. For instance, world’s largest oil services company Schlumberger Limited is registered here, in Willemstad. Curaçao is considered a high-income economy.

Business activities in Curaçao are regulated by the Civil Code and relevant laws.
