In fact, the registration of companies in Sri Lanka took place in the 19th century. It was carried out by the Chancellor General's Department, which reported to the General Secretariat of the British Colonies.
However, due to economic changes in the 1930s, a number of new laws were enacted on the island, and in 1938 the Business Registration Department was established, which currently exists.
