The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is a partially recognized state on part of the island of Cyprus. It is only recognized by Turkey. A number of states maintain informal relations with TRNC. The form of government is the presidential republic. The head of state is the president. Currency is Turkish Lira. The official language is Turkish.

The GDP of the TRNC is dominated by the service sector, including tourism (about 70%). In recent years, the economy has been growing dynamically. At the same time, it is highly dependent on Turkey. Turkey provides economic assistance to Northern Cyprus and only with its mediation can the TRNC perform export-import operations.

Although North Cyprus is mentioned by experts as offshore jurisdiction, it is not included in the official offshore lists of the EU, OECD because of its unrecognized status.

The legal system of the TRNC was formed under the influence of British and Turkish legislation.

The activities of commercial enterprises in Northern Cyprus are regulated by the Companies Act and other regulations.

A significant part of company data is officially considered confidential in TRNC. This primarily concerns data on owners (shareholders) of companies.

Legalization in the Northern Cyprus

Taking into account its international status the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus has not joined the Hague Convention of 05.10.1961 establishing the procedure for the simplified legalization for documents by authentication by apostille. Therefore, documents from Northern Cyprus can be recognized abroad hypothetically after consular legalization. The most difficulties connected with recognizing the documents issued in Northern Cyprus they will be recognized entirely only in Turkey. Nominally, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the TRNC authenticates all documents issued on the territory of the Republic for their further consular legalization, however, in practice there may be problems due to the nonrecognition of Northern Cyprus. So the legalization procedure cannot be completed in most countries in the world. In fact, when trying to use documents issued by the TRNC outside the Republic and Turkey, there is a high possibility that the authorities refuse to recognize them (although, based on practice, in some cases, these documents can still be recognized, but it is impossible to predict clearly).
